Sizing details
It is recommended that you take your dogs current collar and lay it next to a ruler. This will show you the current size it inches.
Don't have a current collar?
Take a piece of string and measure your dogs neck. Lay the string next to a ruler to get the size in inches.
When measuring a collar, you are getting the "exact size". It is recommended that you order a collar that has at least 4" of adjustment space to securely adjust it to you hounds size.
Measuring For A collar
How Do I measure for a martingale collar?
If your dog currently wears martingale collar, you can check for sizing on the label. Otherwise, measure your dogs neck and head.
One of the most important questions is:
"Is your dogs head bigger or smaller than their neck?"
~Because there is no clasp or buckle on the martingale collar, the collar needs to be able to go over the dogs head and be readjusted.
Measure your dogs neck and widest part of the head (usually under the chin and up around the ears). These two measurements give you a high and low number to be used when ordering the collar.
It is recommended that you leave a couple inches on the high & low end of the size you measured so that you have room to adjust the collar.
Sizing details
Is this collar too wide or narrow?
This is a decision only you can make. What is your dogs current collar width? Does that width suit your needs? Dogs with short necks tend to wear more narrow collars. Dogs with long necks do well with the wider versions. Because every breed is different, you are the best person to determine their needs.
Care instructions
Can I wash this collar?
Yes. Spot cleaning is most recommended due to the fine details of the trim. However, I have washed many versions of the collars my own hounds have worn without much change in finish.
Wash on gentle, cold water, mild detergent. Lay flat to dry. Some trim may fade or lose the metallic finish. However, the webbing will not stretch or fade.
If fibers in the trim are loose due to daily wear & tear, try lightly heating them with a match or lighter (without burning them!) prior to washing. Loose fibers can occur due to scratching, rolling around, rough play, etc.
What does "Made To Order" mean?
Collars listed as "available" at Greyt Escape are either complete and "ready to ship"
Made to order items are partially made and just waiting for hardware. Please add 2 days to the shipping window when choosing that option at check-out.
Local Orders
Though I realize that local buyers may not want to pay shipping, I do not have store front and am unable to "meet" for purchase pick-ups. I do try to keep shipping prices at a minimum however, shipping is based on the weight & size of each piece so, I do have to maintain those prices.
What is a Martingale Dog Collar?
A martingale collar is designed specifically to help prevent your dog from escaping it's collar. There are no buckles and the collar is fit more loosely than a tag collar. Fitted properly, a martingale collar will not fit tightly or choke your dog but, when engaged, will tighten to prevent escape. Because the collar tightens when engaged (a dog pulls or, attempts to back out of the collar), it is not recommended that the collar be worn unless you are walking your dog or out in a public venue where it is needed. Alternately, a tag collar can be worn in the house. Scratching at any collar may cause the detailed trim to be damaged. This is considered wear and tear. You are responsible for determining the proper use of all collars purchased.
Trouble Shooting The Martingale Collar
Martingale collars have several inches of adjustment opportunity. By expanding the collar properly, it will sit flush on your dogs neck.

Why polypropylene webbing instead of nylon?
Over the years, we have heard from buyers, that nylon can cause an allergic reaction to their pups. With this in mind, we sought out a solution that was strong but, was less reactive and in the process found that polypropylene met those needs in adition to other benefits.
About polypropylene webbing:
It has excellent UV protection, low stretch, and does not absorb water quickly, giving it a better resistance to mildew and rot.
Heavyweight Polypropylene facts:
- 1" & 1.5" Thickness of 0.060 of an inch
- Melting point of 330 degrees fahrenheit
- 1" breaking strength of 900 pounds
- 1.5" breaking strength of 1200 pounds
